The Citadel is a hidden gem marquee wedding venue in North Shropshire. A venue where your celebration can unfold slowly, beautifully, and entirely in your own way. With a dedicated wedding lawn, on-site bridal party accommodation, and generous weekend access, we blend exclusivity with flexibility and a level of care rarely found at marquee venues.
Set within one of Britain’s few Grade I listed landscapes, the gardens are ever-changing, the views are sweeping, and the house – with its castle-style façade – becomes your elegant backdrop throughout the weekend.

Set directly in front the House, the wedding lawn is a levelled, beautifully manicured lawn bordered by stone walls and gardens. Elevated above the surrounding landscape, it enjoys sweeping views of Hawkstone Park and across the Shropshire plain to the Welsh hills. As dusk falls and string & fairy lights begin to twinkle, it becomes a breathtaking canvas for your reception.

Unlike typical country venues where the marquee is permanent, The Citadel offers the best of both worlds: the creative freedom of a bespoke marquee wedding, and the reassurance that everything beneath your feet is ready, levelled, and seamlessly supported.
We work closely with trusted marquee suppliers to source, quote, and manage the build of your chosen marquee. Inside, everything is yours to design: flooring, bar, table layouts, lighting, florals, and furniture.

Here, your ceremony can unfold in one of two beautifully distinct settings.
Choose a traditional ceremony at St Luke’s Chapel in Weston-under-Redcastle, our charming village church, for a legally binding service officiated by the local vicar. Alternatively, a church of your choice.
Or plan a celebrant-led ceremony in the summer garden (a secluded, walled space within The Citadel grounds) for a relaxed and personal exchange of vows after you've sorted the legal paperwork.

The couple's suite is a peaceful turret room with windows on three sides, elegant furnishings, & sweeping views across Hawkstone Park.
GUEST ROOMS
Three additional bedrooms offer comfortable accommodation for the wedding party with characterful details and countryside views in every direction.

Overnight guests can enjoy the house during their stay, with the Billiards Room often proving a favourite space for the groom's preparations.
